:: Larry Schwarz (CREATOR)Interview by www.kappamikeyfans.net ::

Question 1: How did animation become your profession?

Larry: Before working in animation I owned Rumpus Toys. After producing animated shorts for some of our toys I decided to take the route of animation. Everything has grown from there.

Question 2: What was your inspiration for Kappa Mikey?

Larry: I thought it would be cool to create a show that combines both American style animation and anime. We wanted to make a show that audiences all over the world would find funny whether they are anime fans or not. At the same time we wanted to make something that anime fans would love for all the reasons they love traditional anime.

Question 3: What makes Kappa Mikey so appealing and enjoyable?

Larry: Kappa Mikey has great characters and stories. Everyone can know, love and relate to the show.

Question 4: What age group did you imagine would enjoy the series?

Larry: Kappa Mikey is broadcast for kids 6-12 but anyone can enjoy the show. It is great for older anime fans as well as fans of cartoons. The show has great comedy that people of all ages can relate to and enjoy on different levels.

Question 5: 5. Do you have a favorite character? Are any of your characters based on real people?

Larry: No, I don’t have a favorite character. I look at all the characters as my children so it is hard to pick. Sometimes I like different characters more depending on the episode. None of the characters are based on real people but some of them have similar traits to people who work on the show. Guano in some ways is much like our own director.

sam Question 6: What is Guano supposed to be? Is that a costume he is wearing, or is that just what the character looks like? Why is he named Guano?

Larry: More will be revealed about Guano in our Christmas special. Make sure to keep an eye out for it on December 7th at 7pm on Nickelodeon and December 9th at 7pm on Nicktoons Network.

Question 7: How did you guys make Mikey so darned cute?

Larry: I am not so sure how to answer that.

Question 8: How long does it take to make a single episode? Which episode was the most enjoyable to make?

Larry: We make a lot of episodes at once. It takes 18 months to make a full season of 26 episodes. There is fun stuff about every episode. What’s great is, Kappa Mikey is now in production of its second season and we are really able to watch the characters grow.

Question 9: Is there anything we can expect regarding... pairings for the Lillymu gang?

Larry: Stay tuned for more things like LilyNard.

Question 10: What are your favorite Anime/Manga? What is your favorite American cartoon?

Larry: My favorite Anime is Grave of the Fireflies and my favorite American cartoon is Underdog.

Question 11: Will there be Kappa Mikey merchandise?

Larry: Yes, absolutely. There will soon be a limited edition Kappa Mikey collectors t-shirt on sale at nick.com. We will be sure to keep you updated.

Question 12: Do you think Kappa Mikey will be a success on Nickelodeon?

Larry: It already is! It has been a big success on Nicktoons and that is carrying over to Nickelodeon. We are already number one in our time slot for children’s programming.

Question 13: What do you think of www.kappamikeyfans.net and The Yes Man Closet forum?

Larry: Great! Amazing! Fantastic! It is always so rewarding that people take the time to create fan sites.

Question 14: Is there anything you can share about the future for the series?

Larry: There are some great episodes on the way including the Christmas episode and a 3 part episode.

Question 15: What is Kappa Mikey?

Larry: The name of the show is a play on Kappa Maki. The star of the show, Mikey Simon, is metaphorically a fish out of water, as the Kappa is a mythological creature out of the water. Maki is a sushi roll so that is also a cultural play on words.
